Together for Children and the Union of Greek Shipowners embrace 107 flood-affected families in Thessaly

With the generous donation from the Union of Greek Shipowners, “Together for Children” has undertaken a monthly support initiative until the end of the year, for the next 7 months, benefiting 107 families with minor children, totaling 387 beneficiaries, who are facing severe difficulties and reside in 29 areas of Thessaly, specifically in the regions of Trikala, Karditsa, and Larissa, which were hit by severe flooding.

Needs Assessment

The specialized team from “Together for Children” visited the most severely damaged areas of Thessaly in the past months. In collaboration with municipal social services and mobile psychosocial care units, they identified families that demonstrably face severe difficulties and need assistance based on specific socio-economic criteria.

Support Framework and Meeting Needs

With exclusive funding from the Union of Greek Shipowners, “Together for Children” provides monthly vouchers for essential supplies to the beneficiary families from June to December 2024. As part of this initiative, “Together for Children” will hold regular meetings with the families to delve deeper into their needs and provide additional assistance wherever possible.

Additionally, the program offers free psychological support and counseling services to the beneficiary families by specialized psychologists from the 115 25 helpline and the Counseling Center of “Together for Children.” It also provides free diagnostic medical examinations for minor children at a collaborating center in Attica.

Ms. Alexandra Martinou, President of “Together for Children,” stated, “From the very first moment, we have stood by the flood-affected residents of Thessaly. In this effort, the Union of Greek Shipowners has joined us as an ally. Together, we offer help where there is a need and contribute to easing the daily lives of the flood-affected, while also providing support to create conditions for a better future.”

Ms. Melina Travlou, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, stated, “Faithful to our vision ‘Shipping & Society Always Together,’ we have wholeheartedly embraced the support program of ‘Together for Children,’ which concerns 107 flood-affected families in Thessaly. This initiative adds to the broader and multi-faceted social solidarity plan of the Union of Greek Shipowners for our affected fellow citizens in the area.”
