“Together for Children”: 221 Vulnerable Families Received Support in the First Half of 2024

Together for Childreb, through its “Supporting Vulnerable Families” program, provides essential food and basic necessities, psychological support, diagnostic tests, and coverage for educational needs to vulnerable families.

Specifically, in the first half of 2024, 775 individuals across Greece who face financial difficulties were supported, including 430 children. Out of the total 221 beneficiary families, 111 were single-parent and 44 were large families. These families were included in the program following referrals from 70 collaborating social agencies, based on specific criteria. The program duration is 6 months.

Beneficiaries received vouchers from major supermarket chains to cover their basic needs, as well as guidance from Together for Children’s social service on issues concerning them. Where necessary, the educational needs of children and teenagers were covered, such as preparation for nationwide exams, learning foreign languages, and remedial teaching. Additionally, free diagnostic tests were conducted for children, and families needing psychological support were assisted by psychologists from the 115 25 Helpline and the Together for Children Counseling Center.

The program aims to meet the basic needs of vulnerable families, enabling them to overcome daily obstacles and dedicate time and energy to building a better future. In many cases, Together Children helps parents seek employment and pursue opportunities for themselves and their children.

As Ms. Loukia Tertipi, social worker and head of the “Supporting Vulnerable Families” program, stated: “Through our collaboration with 70 social agencies, we respond to requests across Greece and include families in the program based on predetermined criteria. Our primary concern is to provide children and their families with a ‘safety net’ of support and care in their daily lives. For this reason, we maintain continuous contact with the program beneficiaries to identify their needs and equip them for a better future.”

The implementation of the program is made possible with the valuable support of: Union of Greek Shipowners, E-food, ELA (Educational Leadership Association), NFL, P&G, and Moraitis Primary School. Additionally, resources were gathered from individuals and companies through the www.supportmazi.gr platform of Together for Children.
