Together for Children supported 17 schools and a hospital in Epirus

Together for Children continues to support children and families living in remote areas across Greece. During the 2025–2026 school year, the organisation carried out targeted interventions in schools across all educational levels in the Regional Unit of Ioannina, as well as at the “P. Hatzikosta” General Hospital of Ioannina, through its Remote Areas Program.

Supporting Education

As part of the program, Together for Children supported 17 schools across the municipalities of Ioannina, Zitsa, Pogoni, Konitsa and Metsovo, benefiting 1,540 students and 319 teachers.

The interventions were designed following a thorough needs assessment and in close collaboration with each school community, with the aim of creating modern, functional and supportive learning environments for children while equipping teachers with contemporary educational resources.

Particular emphasis was placed on inquiry-based learning, upgrading digital equipment, enhancing educational resources for kindergartens, promoting reading for pleasure, supporting school sports, and strengthening special education provision.

Among the key interventions delivered were:

  • The creation of 2 STEM classrooms, providing students with opportunities to develop critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning and technology.
  • The establishment of a creative learning and reading room, encouraging literacy and imaginative learning.
  • The enhancement of special education services through the refurbishment of an inclusion classroom and a speech therapy room, together with the donation of sensory integration equipment.
  • Investment in early childhood education through upgraded educational materials for kindergartens, helping young children build essential skills and strong foundations for future learning.
  • The provision of modern digital equipment for one computer laboratory and 13 classrooms.
  • The upgrade of two school libraries.
  • The donation of musical instruments to the Music School of Ioannina, enabling students to develop their musical talents and take their first steps in music education.
  • The provision of sports equipment to 7 schools.
  • The installation of outdoor playground equipment in two kindergarten playgrounds.

Supporting Healthcare

Alongside its education initiatives, Together for Children donated modern medical equipment to the Paediatric Department of the “P. Hatzikosta” General Hospital of Ioannina, helping enhance the quality of care provided to infants and children across the region.

The donation included:

  • 3 neonatal incubators
  • 3 patient monitors for measuring vital signs
  • 1 non-invasive bilirubin meter

These interventions strengthen the capacity of public paediatric healthcare across a much wider geographical area. In addition to serving the Region of Epirus, the hospital also provides care for patients from the Ionian Islands, Lefkada, Aetolia-Acarnania, Western Macedonia and Albania, ensuring improved support for children requiring hospitalisation and ongoing medical care.

These initiatives were made possible through the generous support of Trafigura Maritime Ventures LTD, Chartworld Shipping Corp., Goldenport Group, Prominence Maritime, Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp., United Maritime Corp., and the Trafigura Foundation.

Alexandra Martinou, President of Together for Children, said:
