Together for Children | Empowering 1,200 Teachers for a Safer and More Supportive School Environment

Together for Children, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports and with the support of Stoiximan, implements a new programme aimed at empowering teachers and improving relations in the school environment. The announcement of the programme was made during the discussion between the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sophia Zacharaki and the CEO of Stoiximan, Nikos Fleigo, in the presence of the President of Together for Children, Alexandra Martinou, focusing on the mental health of children and adolescents, the role of the school and the need to empower teachers and improve relations in the school community in the face of bullying phenomena.

The program will be implemented through the Counseling Center of Together for Children, staffed by specialized mental health professionals with experience in school-related issues.

During the 2026–2027 school year, approximately 1,200 teachers in Athens and across the regions will participate in cycles of psychoeducational seminars and workshops aimed at strengthening their skills in dealing with modern challenges in school life.

Topics will include, among others, the management of school bullying, delinquent behavior in adolescence, exam anxiety, children’s relationship with the internet, teachers’ mental resilience, and effective communication between school and family. Participants will also have access to the free counseling helpline 11525 for additional support.

The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki, stated:
“Empowering teachers and improving relationships within the school community require collaboration, consistency, and meaningful investment. Teachers are called upon daily to manage complex and demanding situations, and it is essential that they have access to the appropriate tools, knowledge, and support. This collaboration moves in a meaningful direction, as it practically strengthens teachers and contributes to the creation of a school environment that is safer, more inclusive, and more supportive for every child.”

The President of Together for Children, Alexandra Martinou, stated:
“At Together for Children, we witness daily how increased and complex the needs of the school community are. Through our Counseling Center, we actively contribute to empowering teachers by providing knowledge, practical tools, and continuous support. This initiative can substantially strengthen a safer and more supportive school environment for every child.”

The CEO of Stoiximan, Nikos Fligos, noted:

“At Stoiximan, we believe that social responsibility has real meaning when it responds to existing needs in a meaningful, structured, and sustainable way. Schools are among the most crucial environments for shaping children’s personalities, relationships, and self-confidence. That is why we consider it especially important that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, we can contribute to an initiative that invests in prevention and in supporting those who are on the front line of school life every day: teachers. Through the IROES program, we aim to contribute to the creation of a school environment that is safer, more supportive, and better equipped to effectively address bullying.”
