Support for Over 7,000 Students in Greece Through Educational Initiatives
In 2024, Together for Children made a significant impact on the educational journey of over 7,000 students in Greece through its programs “Together in Remote Areas” and “Supporting Vulnerable Families.” On International Education Day, celebrated on January 24th, we are reminded that education is not only a fundamental human right but also the cornerstone of progress. Access to quality and inclusive education is essential for eliminating inequalities of all kinds.
As part of its initiatives to support vulnerable families, Together for Children, in collaboration with the Pedagogical Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, designed a new free educational program in 2024. Spanning 70 weeks and titled “STEM Education and Soft Skills,” the program is tailored for children and adolescents attending public schools in socially sensitive areas. Its aim is to equip young students with practical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) skills, digital literacy, and soft skills that holistically develop their knowledge, capabilities, and life attitudes. The curriculum includes 35 essential skills for positive personal development, covering a broad spectrum of life skills.
Simultaneously, the “Together in Remote Areas” program was intensified in 2024 to offer even more children and young people in remote parts of Greece equal access to knowledge and modern technologies. Through this program, Together for Children accomplished the following:
Modernization of School Facilities:
- Upgraded 57 schools in Thrace and Kalymnos, improving learning conditions for 7,626 students and 1,030 educators by donating 23,087 pieces of modern equipment.
- Created 19 STEM classrooms in primary schools and kindergartens, fostering creative thinking, innovation, and skill development.
- Upgraded 15 laboratories for natural sciences, IT, and robotics.
Support for Inclusive Education:
- Established 4 integration classes, 1 reception class for refugee and migrant students, and a sensory integration room at a special education school.
- Enhanced educational materials at 4 special education schools.
Encouragement of Reading Culture:
- Created 5 new lending libraries.
- Supported 33 school libraries with modern book titles.
Promotion of Sports and Play:
- Renovated 3 school sports fields, built 1 gym, and provided 19 schools with athletic equipment.
- Built a playground and created recreational and creative activity areas in 4 schools.
- Improved playgrounds in 7 kindergartens with outdoor games.
Additionally, to enhance skills and opportunities for further growth among the children it supports, Together for Children provided scholarships to 8 young individuals for culinary studies and supported the participation of 14 students in extracurricular activities, including foreign language lessons and supplementary tutoring.
As Mrs. Lenia Kontogouri, General Director of Together for Children, stated:
“At Mazi gia to Paidi, we believe that education is the key to eliminating inequalities and empowering youth. Education is not only a right but also a necessary condition for a better society, and we are committed to continuing our investment in the future of our children.”
