The program supporting 107 flood-affected families, organized by Together for Children and the Union of Greek Shipowners, successfully concluded

A symbolic Christmas celebration held in Palamas, Karditsa marked the completion of this support program, which benefited 107 families with minor children across Thessaly. This initiative was carried out by Together for Children with the generous donation of the Union of Greek Shipowners. The festive event of love took place on Monday, December 16, in the presence of the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Ms. Melina Travlou, and the President of Together for Children, Ms. Alexandra Martinos.

Both children and adults enjoyed a musical and dance-filled Christmas performance and received personal gifts. As part of the event, additional vouchers for the Christmas dinner table were distributed to all benefiting families, beyond the program’s scope. A particularly moving moment occurred when attendees of all ages expressed their gratitude through handwritten messages on the wall of wishes.

This seven-month program, exclusively funded by the Union of Greek Shipowners (June – December 2024), supported a total of 387 beneficiaries facing severe challenges across 29 areas in Thessaly, specifically in the prefectures of Trikala, Karditsa, and Larissa, which were severely affected by intense flooding. The program included monthly voucher provisions for each family member to cover essential needs. Additionally, the specialized team of Together for Children offered psychosocial support to those who sought assistance.

Ms. Alexandra Martinos, President of Together for Children, stated:
“For the past seven months, we stood by 107 families whose daily lives were deeply impacted by the 2023 floods in Thessaly. In this endeavor, we had the invaluable support of the Union of Greek Shipowners. Together, we became companions to these families, helping them face challenges and build a better future for their children.”

Ms. Melina Travlou, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, commented:
“Our collaboration with Together for Children took place within the framework of our broader action plan for Thessaly, titled ‘Saint Nicholas.’ The program concluded with great success. Today’s event was a heartfelt embrace of love and emotion for all of us.”
