“Together in Sports”: Modern Sports Facilities and Equipment for 4,933 Students in Greece

Together for Children, from 2019 to the present, has created modern sports and recreational spaces for 4,933 students in 64 schools across Greece. Special priority is given to remote and border areas, as well as regions affected by natural disasters. The Panhellenic School Sports Day, on September 27th, reminds us of the importance of physical activity for the health and development of children and young people.

Together for Children’s initiatives are part of its broader efforts for education. Specifically, significant actions have been implemented to promote school sports, including the reconstruction of 20 school courts and one school gymnasium, as well as the donation of sports and psychomotor materials to 56 schools across the country. This equipment includes basketballs, volleyballs, footballs, hurdles, batons, trampolines, climbing walls, ping-pong tables, gym mats, and more. Additionally, psychomotor training equipment, such as hoops, cones, and balance paths, has been provided to help children be introduced to sports through play.

Physical activity plays a crucial role in the physical and mental well-being of children, promoting their psychosocial development and reducing anxiety. Through sports, children develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, friendship, acceptance, inclusion, coping with defeat, discipline, perseverance, and self-esteem. In an era dominated by sedentary lifestyles and prolonged screen time, play, exercise, and sports improve children’s daily lives, laying strong foundations for their adult life.

As Ms. Tatiana Moulouli, Head of the Development Program for Remote Areas at Together for Children, stated: “Our goal is to offer equal opportunities to all children, regardless of geographic location, to develop healthy exercise habits and enjoy the many benefits of sports. Especially in border and remote areas where opportunities are limited, our interventions aim to bring the joy of movement and teamwork to students, building a better, healthier new generation. We will continue to promote the values of sports, inclusion, and physical well-being, significantly contributing to the development and welfare of children across the country.”
