Teenagers and Exam Stress

Adolescence is a stressful period that affects teenagers emotionally since many changes occur in both a bio-physical, a cognitive and a social level. All of the above changes and difficulties that these changes bring, along with the requirements of school exams, are stress sources for teenagers.

It is very important for parents to make clear to adolescents that their success or failure in exams do not determine their value. Parents need to show them that they accept them for what they are and that they are there to support them to do their best for them. Finally, what teenagers need the most from their parents -during the difficult period of examinations-is support, stability, security and acceptance.
