3rd Primary School of Konitsa | Renovation of the Indoor Gymnasium

Together for Children renovated the indoor gymnasium of the 3rd Primary School of Konitsa, offering 67 students and 15 teachers a modern and safe space for physical activity.
The project was carried out with the kind support of ION S.A., as part of the program “Together in Remote Areas.”

Through this intervention, the gym floor was upgraded with a 200 sq. m. acrylic surface system and marked for basketball and volleyball. Two new wall-mounted backboards with hoops and nets were installed, along with a volleyball net attached directly to the walls. At the same time, the gym’s interior walls were refreshed with new paint.

Additionally, the school was equipped with 262 pieces of sports equipment and materials, including wall bars, a vaulting horse, a plinth, a balance beam, and a punching bag, as well as gym mats and a climbing wall. Students also now have access to balls, cones, hurdles, batons, hoops, team bibs, and various coordination and target games such as boccia and mini golf sets.

With the upgrade of the gymnasium, students can now exercise in a safe space that promotes a healthier lifestyle, encourages teamwork and sportsmanship, and allows them to spend their time creatively during the winter months when outdoor activities are limited due to weather conditions.

Mrs. Alexandra Martinos, President of Mazi gia to Paidi, stated:“We are especially happy that, with the support of ION, we have offered the children of Konitsa a space that encourages both exercise and recreation. We had the joy of seeing the children make full use of the gym on the occasion of School Sports Day—a day that reminds us of the importance of physical activity in their daily lives.
Through the ‘Together in Remote Areas’ program, we continue to stand by schools and communities in need, giving children equal opportunities to learn and play.

Within this framework, and in collaboration with Mazi gia to Paidi, we proudly support this initiative with the vision of creating a space where students can develop their talents, engage in sports, and strengthen their sense of teamwork. We hope the new gym will be a source of inspiration and joy for all.

Mrs. Maria Mantziou, Principal of the 3rd Primary School of Konitsa, noted:“The use of a properly designed athletic space, equipped with modern and multifunctional gym equipment, offers our students a safe, creative, and high-quality environment for exercise and physical well-being.
The Teaching Staff Association and the Parents and Guardians Association of the 3rd Primary School of Konitsa express their deep gratitude to Mazi gia to Paidi, which, with the kind support of ION S.A., has tangibly enhanced the quality of school life and provided new opportunities for sports and development to the students of our remote region.”
