Τhe Modern Aspects of School Violence & Bullying in the Greek School

A research titled "Investigating the modern aspects of school violence and bullying in the Greek school" was conducted by Themistocles and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation - Center for European Constitutional Law, in the context of the implementation of the Acts "Development and Prevention Network Operation and Control of Phenomena of School Violence and Bullying ".The survey took place during May-June 2015. 25 interviews with teachers of schools in Attica and 23 interviews with parents of students of all educational levels in schools in Attica were conducted.

Based on the findings from the interviews from both parents and teachers, the phenomena manifested differently in each education level and generally the seriousness of incidents tend to escalate with age.

Specifically:
-At the kindergarten "violence" occurs in the form of early aggressive behavior and can become intimidating over the years if it is not treated timely and properly.
-At the elementary school the most common forms of bullying related to verbal violence, to marginalize students / female students and lobbying and micro-extortion.
-At Gymnasium bullying focuses on appearance and on issues related to sexual identity and sexual identity, often expressed in physical violence and  cyber bullying.
-At Lyceum violence and bullying are expressed more strongly in relation to other educational levels and takes the form of teasing and even brutal violence on several occasions.

The Role of the Environment

The family and school environment operate decisively in forming attitudes that express each student. Specifically for the school environment, both groups argue that a school environment that inspires a sense of security to children can prevent bullying. Undeniably, the school and family collaboration is recognized as a catalyst in the early treatment and prevention of the phenomenon.
